There are a number of pruning types used in arboriculture. These pruning types include, cleaning, thinning, crown raising, and reduction.
Cleaning: The removal of dead and dying branches is often required to maintain plant health and safety.
Thinning: The removal of live branches is often required to reduce density and significantly reduce wind resistance and subsequent storm damage.
Crown Raising: The removal of lower branches to allow sunlight to reach surrounding plantings, give clearance, or allow for better sightlines.
Reduction: The selective removal of branches and stems to reduce the height or spread of a tree, not to be confused with topping (the practice of removing whole tops of trees or large branches leaving stubs or lateral branches that are too small to assume the roll of a terminal leader).
Tree Tenders are trained to evaluate the condition of your trees and determine the type(s) of pruning that are required to keep them healthy.
