Cables and brace rods are used to help support stems and limbs with the intention of reducing the failure of weak branches by limiting movement. Cables used by Tree Tenders are made of high strength steel and are attatched to eye bolts installed in the upper crown of a tree. It is often reccommended that along with cable installation, reduction pruning be implemented as well.

Brace rods are steel rods installed lower in the crown to provide support for poorly attached branch unions or split leads. The intention is to hold the split leads or poorly attached branch unions and prevent excessive movement and twisting.
